Sue LyttleArtist's Statement / BackgroundMy paintings reflect my love of nature as shown in landscape, seascape, flower and bird paintings. I also enjoy painting scenes from my travels. I am most fascinated by the effects of light – how a flower's petals can glow with translucence or how light reflecting off a surface can give a glow to a scene. Trying to capture the effects of light, shadow, reflections – this is what draws me to paint in watercolor. I began my art career as a fiber artist. I spun and dyed yarns and created stitched art and sculpture. I taught design in adult education classes and fiber art in a summer program at Stanford. I have worked as a graphic designer for more than 20 years. I began painting watercolors in 1995. An active member of the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, I have acquired watercolor techniques through my association with other watercolor artists and through workshops with prominent professionals.
